Council on Online Education

In the 2022 address to the University Senate President Holloway addressed the need for the Rutgers community to “think creatively and with intention about how we clarify our presence in the online space, and in doing so, better serve our students,” by announcing the creation of a universitywide council that will be responsible for advancing this work.

The new Council on Online Education will contribute to improving all aspects of the online education experience throughout the student lifecycle by advising on universitywide policies, practices, expectations, and investments.

Convened and charged by the Executive Vice President Moghe in November 2022, the Council will:

  • Monitor the current state of online education at Rutgers and progress against universitywide goals
  • Enable ongoing two-way communication and idea exchange with chancellor-led academic units
  • Review and advise on the revision of existing and the addition of new policies, practices, and investments in areas that would benefit from greater universitywide coordination
  • Inform opportunities for intentional and appropriate growth of online programs at Rutgers as part of the academic portfolio and provide advice on the revision of existing and the addition of new policies, practices, and investments to support the success of these efforts.
  • Advise on future opportunities for establishing Council-convened subgroups or task forces

The Council includes members by nomination from the chancellor-led units and the University Senate and ex officio members from the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Office of Information Technology, and Office of University Strategy.
