Fulbright Programs at Rutgers

The Fulbright Program is an international academic exchange program founded in 1946 with an ambitious goal—to increase mutual understanding and support friendly and peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Fulbright offers opportunities to study, teach, conduct research, and carry out projects in more than 160 countries worldwide for U.S. citizens, non-U.S. citizens, and higher education institutions. Rutgers has consistently been a high producer of both Fulbright Students and Scholars.

Fulbright is a Global Network of Changemakers

The Fulbright Program awards approximately 9,000 merit-based scholarships annually in the United States and more than 160 countries. Opportunities are available for U.S. citizens, non-U.S. citizens, and higher education Institutions. The program offers many opportunities for accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds and fields, including research and study grants, teaching assistantships, exchange programs, and public diplomacy initiatives. These programs support international collaboration, cultural exchange, and knowledge-sharing across disciplines.

Inbound and Outbound Programs

Rutgers University is committed to fostering global engagement through exchange programs that connect students, faculty, and scholars with opportunities for cross-cultural learning and academic collaboration. These programs are designed to promote international dialogue, cultural diversity, and academic excellence by facilitating the movement of students and scholars both to and from the university. The exchange is facilitated through two key pathways: Inbound Programs and Outbound Programs, each offering unique opportunities for participants to engage in enriching global experiences.

Inbound Programs

Inbound programs at Rutgers welcome international students, scholars, and language instructors to teach, study, or conduct research at the university. These programs allow non-U.S. citizens to experience academic life at Rutgers while contributing to campus cultural and academic diversity.

Outbound Programs

Outbound programs allow Rutgers' U.S. students, faculty, and staff to engage in academic, research, or teaching opportunities abroad through the Fulbright Program. Rutgers participants enrich their knowledge by immersing themselves in other cultures while advancing their academic goals.
