Rutgers–Camden Mathematician Benedetto Piccoli Honored for Wide-Ranging Research
April 11, 2024
Rutgers University–Camden is proud to announce that Benedetto Piccoli, the Joseph and Loretta Lopez Chair of Mathematics and distinguished professor of mathematics, was selected as the 2024 W. T. and Idalia Reid Prize recipient by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). The award was given in recognition of Piccoli’s significant contributions to applied mathematics, especially in the areas of vehicular traffic management, robotics, and biology.
Established by Idalia Reid in honor of her husband, W. T. Reid, and first awarded in 1994, the W. T. and Idalia Reid Prize in Mathematics is awarded annually in the broadly defined areas of differential equations and control theory. SIAM, which has more than 14,000 members internationally, was incorporated in 1952 as a nonprofit organization focused on sharing mathematical research among professionals to foster the implementation of mathematical theory for practical, industrial, or scientific use.
