Eduardo Molina Appointed as Vice President for Institutional Research and Decision Support

Dear Colleagues:

I am very pleased to inform you that Eduardo Molina has been appointed as Vice President for Institutional Research and Decision Support, effective November 1, 2021.

Reporting to the EVPAA, the Vice President will provide leadership and oversight to the key areas of institutional research, analysis, reporting, and effectiveness; academic planning and program review; assessment; accreditation; data-centric decision support and analytics; and policy development and analysis. The Vice President will also work in support of the Office of University Strategy in providing decision-support and analysis of institutional effectiveness on major university goals and initiatives. In support of President Holloway’s vision for elevated academic standing and an enhanced role for institutional research, Eduardo will lead efforts to further a culture of data-informed decision-making; integrate institutional research more closely with the university’s schools, centers, and institutes; and promote efforts to be proactive and analytical in service to Rutgers’ mission and its constituencies.

Eduardo has almost 20 years of experience in institutional research, including 15 years leading institutional research offices. Prior to joining Rutgers, he served as Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research and Data Integrity at New York University (NYU). He coordinated efforts to solidify the data governance function across NYU and both created and supervised the new Office of Data Governance. He developed more than 150 data dashboards for senior leadership and conducted research for multiple university-wide initiatives.

Prior to joining NYU, Eduardo served as Director of Institutional Research at the University of Southern California (USC) where he developed and launched the institutional research function and coordinated the implementation of a campus-wide research agenda, including development of statistics and research methodology training for campus partners. Previously, Eduardo held multiple roles in the field of institutional research, including Associate Director for Institutional Research at Georgetown University, among others.

The institution gratefully acknowledges the longstanding leadership of Robert J. Heffernan who established a national reputation and directed the Office of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (OIRAP) over the past two decades leading up to his retirement. I am also deeply thankful to the Rutgers search committee led by Brian Ballentine and the external search firm who brought a competitive pool of external candidates for our consideration.

I look forward to working closely with Eduardo as we strive to effectively establish analytics to increase the university’s academic excellence in partnership with units across the institution. I know you will join me in welcoming him to Rutgers.
