Call for Nominations: 2020–2021 Year-End Awards (Deadline: June 30, 2021)

February 15, 2021

Chancellors, Provosts, Deans, Directors, and Chairpersons:

I am pleased to initiate the nominating process for the annual year-end awards.  Given our desire to host an in-person event, along with the challenges of doing so safely, awards will be presented this fall with details to follow at a later time.  Please share this with all your faculty members, staff members, and student leaders, who should be made aware of the appropriate awards programs and encouraged to submit nominations in the relevant categories.

The awards ceremony will honor outstanding members of the Rutgers community selected by their colleagues for exceptional contributions to teaching, research, or public service through a program of six awards.  For each award, the recipient receives a commemorative certificate and an honorarium.

  • The Warren I. Susman Award for Excellence in Teaching, up to 5 awards, $1,000 honorarium (tenured faculty only)
  • The Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research, up to 5 awards, $1,000 honorarium (tenured faculty only)
  • The Scholar-Teacher Award, up to 5 awards, $1,000 honorarium (tenured faculty only)
  • The Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching, up to 5 awards, $1,000 honorarium (non-tenure track, full-time faculty only)
  • The Rutgers College Class of 1962 Presidential Public Service Award, up to 2 awards, $2,500 honorarium (faculty, staff, students)
  • The Ernest E. McMahon Class of 1930 Award, 1 award, $1,000 honorarium (faculty, staff, students)

Please Note: The nomination process has been streamlined; if you wish to re-nominate a previously nominated candidate, you may update the cover letter and submit materials from the previous year’s packet.

For the teaching, research, and scholar-teacher awards, nomination packets must be reviewed and approved by the candidate's department head/chair and dean/director, and submitted by the dean/director to my office. These nominations will be reviewed by University-wide faculty committees, who will submit their recommendations to me and to the President.

Students and staff members as well as faculty members are eligible for the Rutgers College Class of 1962 Presidential Public Service Award and the Ernest E. McMahon Class of 1930 Award. We particularly encourage the nomination of students and staff for these two public service awards.  Individuals may receive one award in each of the relevant award categories during their service at Rutgers, and should not be nominated in a category in which they already have received an award.  The Ernest E. McMahon Class of 1930 Award also has a separate and distinct nominating process that does not require departmental or decanal approval of nominations.

Please visit our website to access the nomination forms and instructions for each of the award categories and a list of previous recipients. Please initiate the nomination process in your academic units and forward your nominations (in a single PDF file) no later than June 30, 2021, to Dr. Angela Mullis (amullis@oq.rutgers.edu), who will be coordinating the process in my office.

Sincerely,

Prabhas V. Moghe, Ph.D.
