Call for Nominations for the 2020–2021 Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award (Deadline: February 26, 2021)
January 25, 2021
Chancellors, Provosts, Deans, and Chairpersons:
I am pleased to initiate the nomination process for the 28th Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award. The award was established by the family, friends, and colleagues of Daniel Gorenstein to commemorate his outstanding mathematical research, his skillful and enthusiastic exposition of his field, and his wise and devoted service to Rutgers University. The award is given for outstanding scholarly achievement to a Rutgers full-time faculty member who has also performed exceptional service to the University community. Exceptional service includes service to the department, university committee work, academic support programs, student governance, and curriculum development, among other possible areas.
All Rutgers University full-time faculty members (excluding previous winners) are eligible. The recipient of the Daniel Gorenstein Award receives a commemorative certificate and an honorarium of $1,000, and delivers a lecture to the University community and the general public at the award ceremony in the Spring semester. In light of the pandemic, the lecture will be presented virtually this year.
The nomination process will be similar to that used for other end-of-year faculty awards. Nominations are reviewed and approved by the individual's department head and dean, and submitted by the dean to my office. A committee of distinguished faculty members will select the recipient of the 2020-2021 Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award.
Please visit our website to access the nomination form that provides a brief description of the award, instructions for completing and submitting the nomination packet, and a list of previous recipients. You may nominate any number of candidates. Please initiate the nomination process in your units and forward your nominations (in a single PDF file) no later than February 26, 2021, to Dr. Angela Mullis (amullis@oq.rutgers.edu), who will be coordinating the process in my office.
