Call for Nominations for the 2023 Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award

June 20, 2023

Chancellors, Provosts, Deans, Directors, and Chairpersons:

I am pleased to initiate the nomination process for the 30th Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award. The award was established by the family, friends, and colleagues of Daniel Gorenstein to commemorate his outstanding mathematical research, his skillful and enthusiastic exposition of his field, and his wise and devoted service to Rutgers University. The award is given for outstanding scholarly achievement to a Rutgers full-time faculty member who has also performed exceptional service to the university community. Exceptional service includes service to the department, university committee work, academic support programs, student governance, and curriculum development, among other possible areas.

All Rutgers University full-time faculty members (excluding previous winners) are eligible. The recipient of the Daniel Gorenstein Award will be invited to deliver a lecture to the university community and the general public at an award ceremony in the fall semester. Following the lecture, the recipient will receive a commemorative certificate and an honorarium of $5,000.

The nomination process will be similar to that used for other end-of-year faculty awards. Nominations are reviewed and approved by the individual's department head and dean and submitted by the dean to my office. A committee of distinguished faculty members will select the recipient of the 2023 Daniel Gorenstein Memorial Award.

Please visit our website to access the nomination form that provides a brief description of the award, instructions for completing and submitting the nomination packet, and a list of previous recipients. You may nominate any number of candidates. Self-nominations will not be accepted. Please initiate the nomination process in your academic units and upload nominations (in a single PDF file) no later than September 8, 2023, to this folder.  For questions regarding the nomination process, please contact Dr. Angela Mullis (amullis@oq.rutgers.edu), who will be coordinating the process in my office.

Sincerely,

Prabhas V. Moghe, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
Distinguished Professor
