Juan Lopez Muro
Co-Design Strategies for Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWT)
Faculty Mentor: Laurent Burlion
Juan Lopez Muro graduated in aeronautical engineering from the National University of La Plata in Argentina and studied advanced control and drone systems at ISAE-SUPAERO in Toulouse, France. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student conducting collaborative research at both the MAE department at Rutgers and the UAV laboratory at ENAC, the French school of civil aviation.
Under the co-supervision of Dr. Laurent Burlion and Dr. Onur Bilgen, Mechanical, Juan participated in the Control Co-Design Optimization Framework with Mixed-Fidelity Fluid and Structure Analysis project. In this project, he conducted research activities concerning dynamic modeling and advanced controller development for floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT) design, sponsored by the Department of Energy.
He has also been actively involved in advising undergraduate students and senior design projects at Dr. Burlion's Research Laboratory. Juan mentored the first Rutgers undergraduate team to participate in the prestigious DOE Collegiate Wind Competition.
Additionally, Juan has designed and tested innovative over-actuated vertical take-off and landing drones at Dr. Burlion's Research Laboratory. His current work involves FOWT platform control for load alleviation using robust control techniques and reference governors, as well as the control of over-actuated vertical take-off and landing systems.
