Biography

Aramis Gutierrez, M.A., is the inaugural assistant vice president for educational access and success in University Academic Affairs, where he leads the Educational Equity and Excellence Collaborative (E3C). The E3C facilitates an ecosystem committed to equitable outcomes by partnering with colleagues across Rutgers University, the state, and the nation through collaboration and innovation. Since 2022, the E3C has collected and curated dozens of first-generation undergraduate resources, reached more than 1,000 first-generation high school students, and presented to hundreds of higher education professionals nationally. Additionally, E3C has awarded $250,000 in grants to Rutgers faculty, staff, and student groups in support of 14 projects reaching 5,000 students since 2023.

Prior to this role, Mr. Gutierrez launched Rutgers Future Scholars as the founding program director in 2008, growing the program from 200 students to 3,000 program alumni during his tenure. Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) is a pre-college program for low-income, first-generation middle school students who demonstrate academic promise, providing preparation for and access to a college education. The RFS program has inspired replication at institutions throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Gutierrez’s background as a certified elementary teacher and high school counselor has informed his work at Rutgers. Before establishing RFS, he served as the inaugural associate director of the Career Equity Resource Center at Rutgers, in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Education. Gutierrez holds a master’s degree in school counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and sociology from Rider University.
