The Rutgers Postdoctoral Association (PDA) aims to build a stronger and more cohesive postdoctoral community across all of Rutgers, spearheading initiatives to develop a feeling of unity among postdocs across Rutgers. They work closely with the Office of Postdoctoral Advancement (OPA) and the postdoc union (AAUP) to represent postdoc interests at a university level and identify ways to improve the postdoc experience at Rutgers. The PDA also hosts an Annual Postdoc Research Symposium where postdocs can showcase their research.
Rutgers is one of over 10 universities in the US where postdoctoral researchers (postdocs) have a union, Rutgers AAUP-AFT. Since 2011, this union has represented hundreds of postdocs. Although postdocs share the union with full-time faculty, graduate workers, and counselors, they have separate contracts. This unified union structure allows them to advocate for better conditions like workload protection, fair pay, and employment support.
