Balzan Prize

The University has been invited to submit nominations for consideration for the 2020 Balzan Prize competition.  This prestigious prize “aims to promote, throughout the world, culture, science and the most meritorious initiatives in the cause of humanity, peace and fraternity among peoples, regardless of nationality, race or creed.”

The International Balzan Prize Foundation awards four prizes annually, two in literature, moral sciences and the arts and two in the physical, mathematical and natural sciences and medicine, each worth 750,000 Swiss francs.

The Prizes are awarded in the subject areas:

  • Earth System Dynamics
  • Environmental Challenges: Responses from the Social Sciences and the Humanities
  • Environmental Challenges: Materials Science for Renewable Energy
  • Human Rights
