Angela Mullis, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs

Angela Mullis Angela Mullis is Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.  As an advisor to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, she is responsible for working with all academic units across the university in directing and organizing the work of the faculty Promotion Review Committee. She manages faculty awards and limited-submission national and international prizes and fellowships.  Dr. Mullis is also involved in the development and planning of major university events, conferences, and symposia. 

Prior to joining the Office of Academic Affairs, Dr. Mullis served as Director of the Byrne First-Year Seminars.  The Byrne Program grew significantly under her leadership, experiencing record enrollment and faculty participation. Before joining Rutgers, she was an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Language and Literature at the University of Mount Olive (NC).  Dr. Mullis holds a PhD in English from the University of Arizona and an MA in American Indian Studies from UCLA.  Her research and teaching interests are in nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature, with an emphasis in American Indian Studies. She regularly teaches courses in Native American cultures for the Department of American Studies and serves on the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Folk Festival.
