Task Force on the Humanities Update

September 24, 2015

As you know, President Barchi recently announced the formation of a University-wide Task Force on the Humanities to evaluate the relative strengths of these disciplines and to identify opportunities to further enhance them.  I was honored to be asked to convene this important Task Force and to work with this group, and I am happy to report that we have already begun our deliberations.

The Task Force has set a rigorous schedule for itself, planning to hold a number of meetings in the coming months with the goal of providing a report to President Barchi by the end of this semester. At our initial meeting, the discussion was thought-provoking, informative, and rigorous; the heartfelt commitment of all of the members to the flourishing of the Humanities at Rutgers was apparent. To broaden our discussions and ensure that all voices are heard, I invite you to seek out members of the Task Force to raise any issues or make any suggestions that you feel may contribute to our discussion. For your information, a list of committee members is posted on the Academic Affairs website under the “Initiatives” section.
