Committee on Academic Planning and Review

The mission of the Committee on Academic Planning and Review (CAPR) is to advise the President and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of Rutgers University on academic planning and other issues that significantly impact Rutgers, in order to best fulfill the missions of the university. This includes undertaking strategic reviews of units as advised by the President and the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The aim of these reviews is to determine how University resources can be most effectively used in supporting a specific disciplinary area and in the case of a cluster review to consider how the contribution of related units taken together can be greater than the sum of their individual contributions. Specifically,

  • CAPR will serve as an independent advisory group of senior faculty on planning issues that impact the academic mission of the university.
  • CAPR’s reviews will generally be requested by the President or the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, although in some cases members of this committee may also suggest specific reviews.
  • CAPR will oversee the review processes, and serve as an advisory group of senior faculty to help prioritize, organize and interpret the findings of the reviews. CAPR will provide the university-wide faculty perspective to the external review process and issue recommendations based upon its consideration of any materials provided by the unit, the external report, confidential exit interviews with the evaluators, and the responses of the specific unit and the relevant administrative officers.
