Subject: Search for Director of Veteran and Military Programs and Services

I am writing to announce the search for the position of director of Veteran and Military Programs and Services for Rutgers University. This position, previously held by founding director, Stephen Abel, currently reports to the executive vice President for academic affairs and will report to the senior vice president for academic affairs effective July 1, 2015.  The director is responsible for the development and coordination of comprehensive programs of support services for student veterans at all locations of the university.

We seek to identify an individual with a master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least three years of related experience, preferably in a multifaceted public research university.  We envision candidates possessing authoritative knowledge of veterans affairs and strong communication and interpersonal skills, strong leadership, management, and marketing skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse student populations and their families, as well as with external constituent groups and officials from both state and federal government.  At least five years of executive level/senior management experience and prior military service is desired.
