September 2, 2014
Memorandum to: Members of the University Community
From: Richard L. Edwards, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and
Chancellor – New Brunswick
Subject: University Strategic Plan 100 Days Initiatives
Request for Proposals on Integrating Themes International Academic Symposia
You will recall that one component of President Barchi’s 100 Days Initiatives of the Strategic Plan was the “development and convening of five major academic symposia, each centering on elements of one of the integrating themes.” Those themes are:
- Cultures, Diversity and Inequality- Local and Global
- Improving the Health and Wellness of Individuals and Populations
- Creating a Sustainable World through Innovation, Engineering, and Technology
- Educating Involved Citizens and Effective Leaders for a Dynamic World
- Creative Expression and the Human Experience
Two proposals were selected to receive funding for the 2014–2015 academic year, International Symposium for Sustainable Biotechnology, Bioenergy and Biomedicine and Global Climate Change and Inequality: Local to Global Perspectives. At this time, we are again welcoming proposals for high-level international academic symposia on the integrating themes for the 2015–2016 academic year.
Proposals should include participation by international scholars, and should indicate how the symposium will strengthen partnerships and collaborations. Ideally, each proposal should represent multiple schools and disciplines, and involve Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick as well as RBHS. Funding will be provided for conceptual development and implementation of each symposium.
Please use the templates available at 100 Days International Symposia for proposal submission. The deadline to submit a proposal is November 3, 2014. Proposals will be vetted by a committee of faculty representative of the Rutgers community.
Thank you for your continued involvement in implementing the 100 Days Initiatives of the University’s Strategic Plan.
