MacArthur Foundation's 100 & Change Initiative

A new competition, launched June 2, 2016, will award a $100 million grant to a single proposal designed to help solve a critical problem affecting people, places, or the planet. The MacArthur Foundation’s competition, called 100&Change, is open to organizations working in any field of endeavor anywhere. Applicants must identify both the problem they are trying to solve, as well as their proposed solution. Competitive proposals will be meaningful, verifiable, durable, and feasible. Ideas and their solutions can address domestic or international issues.

The Rutgers Selection Process

MacArthur Foundation strongly encourages organizations to select their best idea for submission; therefore, Rutgers will be conducting an internal review to identify the strongest concept(s) to represent the University. Interested faculty and staff should review the competition website and the first round application. If you have a feasible solution to a significant problem, you are encouraged to complete the attached application and submit it to your Chancellor’s office no later than 5 pm EST on July 29, 2016. Chancellors will collect all applications and submit them for consideration by the Rutgers Review Panel. {OR, if the Chancellors will be charged with the first round of vetting, we can include the sentence, “Chancellors will review all applications and submit the strongest ideas/solutions to the Rutgers Review Panel for further consideration.} The Rutgers Review Panel, which will include leadership from across the University, will make the final determination on which idea(s) will represent Rutgers in the 100&Change competition. The team(s) selected will have the option of grant-writing and video production support to develop a succinct and compelling formal application to the MacArthur Foundation.
